Lex, Doris, and Ronny

When you come down to the Salem Inn’s cozy breakfast area, you will be greeted by the warm smile of Doris Walsh, the Inn’s Breakfast Coordinator. She will take good care of you—socializing with and serving our guests is her favorite part of working at the Inn. Not only will she cook and serve your choice of a complimentary omelette or waffles, if you’re lucky Doris will tell you a story or two about growing up in Salem or what is was like to raise her family here.

Speaking of family. many members of Doris’s family have worked at the Inn, and several still do, making the number of individual families that work at the inn a total of five. We love working at the Inn to be a family affair! Doris says having her kids and grandchildren work there is great fun and everyone gets along. Breakfast server Ron is Doris’s son and server Lex is her daughter-in-law.

Doris takes pride in running a tight ship—she makes sure the breakfast room is spotless, that all ingredients are well-stocked, (we serve waffles, made-to-order omelettes, melon, breads, quiche, yogurt and granola, coffee and tea) and that the food is delivered quickly and hot.

Some other information about Doris: she personally has never seen a ghost in the breakfast room but was told by one of the guests that the figure of a woman was shadowing her. She likes living in Salem but doesn’t like the congestion of late, but knows that that is the price of progress as we welcome more tourists to our unique city. Her hobbies are taking care of her extended family and cooking. She worked for years as an OB tech and has seen many a baby born. and she also worked as a cook for the Salem schools.

If you come to the Inn to visit, definitely wake up in time to have breakfast and meet Doris! You won’t be disappointed!
